Usage Note
Comienzos is almost always used in the plural and typically appears in set phrases: a comienzos de (at the beginning of a period), en sus comienzos (in its/his/her early days). The singular comienzo exists and means 'start' or 'beginning' but the plural is by far more frequent. It is close in meaning to principios (a principios de mayo = at the beginning of May) and the two are often interchangeable.
Examples
