Usage Note
Coercitivo describes measures, powers, or means that compel someone to act through force or threat, and is firmly at home in legal, political, and sociological discourse (medidas coercitivas, 'coercive measures'). It should not be confused with coactivo, which is sometimes used as a synonym but can carry slightly different legal nuances depending on jurisdiction. The noun is coerción.
