Usage Note
Clavar means to drive something (a nail, stake, or thorn) into a surface. Colloquially clavar can also mean to overcharge or swindle someone (me clavaron en ese restaurante — they ripped me off at that restaurant). Reflexively, clavarse una espina means to get a thorn stuck in one.
