cien

one hundred

numeral syehn Less Common

Origin: Latin centum

Usage Note

Cien is the apocopated form used before nouns and in standalone counting: cien personas, cien (exactly 100). When a number greater than 100 uses a hundreds base and continues, the full form ciento is used: ciento uno (101), ciento cincuenta (150). However, the compound forms doscientos, trescientos etc. follow a different pattern. Cien por cien or cien por ciento means '100 percent'.

Examples

"Hay cien personas en la sala."
