catorce

fourteen

numeral kah-TOHR-seh Rare

Usage Note

Catorce is invariable as a cardinal and does not contract into compound forms (unlike the teens from 16–19, which fuse into dieciséis, diecisiete, etc.). The number 14 appears notably in Spanish Valentine's Day references (el catorce de febrero) and in historical dating. Learners often misspell it as catorse — remember the -ce ending mirrors doce and trece.

Examples

"El partido empieza el catorce de marzo."

Natural Translation

The match starts on the fourteenth of March.
