Celebridad has two related senses: an abstract sense (fame, renown) and a concrete sense (a famous person, a celebrity). In the concrete sense it is interchangeable with famoso/famosa or estrella in informal speech, but celebridad is more formal. Do not confuse with celebración (a celebration/event), which shares the same Latin root celebrare.
