Usage Note
Campeón is masculine; the feminine form is campeona. The plural campeones drops the written accent because the added syllable makes the word naturally penultimate-stressed. It applies equally to sports champions and general 'best-in-class' winners, as in campeón del mundo for world champion.
Examples
"El equipo es campeón nacional."
Natural Translation
The team is the national champion.
Literal Translation
The team is champion national
