Usage Note

Azar means random chance or fate with a sense of unpredictability. Al azar means 'at random' and is very common: elegido al azar ('chosen at random'). The phrase juego de azar ('game of chance') covers gambling. Unlike suerte (luck, which can be good or bad and is wished upon someone), azar is neutral and impersonal.
