Usage Note
Anglicano refers to the Church of England and its worldwide communion; la Iglesia anglicana is the standard Spanish phrase. As a noun, un anglicano / una anglicana means 'an Anglican'. It should not be confused with anglófono ('English-speaking') or anglosajón ('Anglo-Saxon'). The term entered Spanish during the post-Reformation period and is used across the Spanish-speaking world in religious and historical contexts.
