Usage Note
Águila is feminine but takes the masculine article el in the singular — el águila — because it begins with a stressed 'a', which would clash with la; in the plural the feminine article is restored: las águilas. The same rule applies to el agua, el hacha, etc. In Mexican Spanish, águila is also a common exclamation meaning 'watch out!'
Examples
"El águila sobrevoló el valle."
Natural Translation
