Usage Note

Ómnibus is an older or more formal word for a public bus, still current in Argentina, Uruguay, and parts of the River Plate region where it refers specifically to long-distance coaches. In most of Latin America and Spain, autobús, bus, or camión (Mexico) are the everyday terms. The word is invariable in the plural: los ómnibus.
