ácido
acid
noun adjective AH-see-doh Less Common
Origin: From Latin acidus ('sour').
Also means
sour, tart
Usage Note
Ácido functions as both noun (el ácido clorhídrico — 'hydrochloric acid') and adjective (sabor ácido — 'sour taste'). The accent on the first syllable marks it as a proparoxytone (stress on the antepenultimate), distinguishing it from the regular acido (non-word). In colloquial Mexican Spanish ácido can also be slang for LSD, a register completely separate from the chemistry and food uses.
Examples
"El limón tiene un sabor muy ácido."
Natural Translation
Lemon has a very sour taste.
