vicepresidenta

vice-president

noun bee-seh-preh-see-DEN-tah Rare

Usage Note

Vicepresidenta is the feminine form of vicepresidente. In Spain, the vicepresidenta del Gobierno is the deputy head of government. The title has become more prominent as more women have occupied the role. Note that unlike English, Spanish uses different word forms for male and female holders of the same office rather than a single gender-neutral title.

Examples

"La vicepresidenta presidió la reunión del gabinete."

Natural Translation

The vice-president chaired the cabinet meeting.
