vermú
vermouth
noun behr-MOO Rare
Origin: From French vermouth, from German Wermut (wormwood).
Usage Note
Vermú (also spelled vermut) is an aromatized fortified wine used as an aperitif. In Spain, ir de vermú or la hora del vermú describes the midday aperitif ritual before Sunday lunch — a deeply rooted social custom. Both spellings are accepted by the RAE; vermú with the accent follows the stress rule for words ending in a stressed vowel.
Examples
"Los domingos tomamos vermú en el bar de la esquina."
Natural Translation
On Sundays we have vermouth at the corner bar.
