verano
summer
noun beh-RAH-noh Less Common
Origin: From Latin veranum (tempus), 'spring/summer time', related to ver (spring).
Usage Note
Verano in most of the Spanish-speaking world means the hot season (roughly June–August in the north, December–February in the southern hemisphere). In parts of Central America, however, verano can mean the dry season regardless of temperature, so context matters.
Examples

We spent the summer at the beach.
