Usage Note
Ut is a Latin word, not a native Spanish lexeme; it appears in Spanish texts only in Latin phrases such as ut supra ('as above') or the musical term ut (the old name for the note 'do' in solmisation). In musical contexts ut is the first note of the hexachord in the Guidonian system, now universally replaced by do in Spanish. Learners will encounter it mainly in legal or ecclesiastical Latin quotations.
Examples
"El canto gregoriano usa la sílaba ut como primera nota."
Natural Translation
