templo
temple
noun TEM-ploh Less Common
Origin: From Latin templum, a sacred space marked out for augury.
Usage Note
Templo refers to a religious building of any faith, not exclusively Christian — a Buddhist templo, a Greek templo, a Masonic templo. For a Catholic church, iglesia (f) is more common in everyday speech. The anatomical 'temple' (side of the head) is sien (f), not templo, which is a false cognate trap.
Examples
"Visitamos un antiguo templo romano."
Natural Translation
We visited an ancient Roman temple.
