Usage Note
Sustituta is the feminine form of sustituto and refers to a woman who replaces another in a job or role. In Spain it is commonly used for a teacher covering a class: la sustituta de la profesora. The masculine sustituto is also used as a gender-neutral default in some formal contexts, though sustituta is preferred when the referent is female.
