Also means
to endure
Usage Note
Sufrir covers both physical pain (sufrir una lesión, to suffer an injury) and emotional anguish (sufrir en silencio). It can also mean to undergo something unwanted (sufrir un retraso, to experience a delay). Unlike English 'suffer,' it does not carry the legal meaning of permitting something to happen.
Examples
"Ella sufrió mucho durante la enfermedad."
Natural Translation
She suffered a lot during the illness.
