Solutrean

noun soh-loo-TREN-seh Rare

Origin: Named after Solutré, a site in Burgundy, France, where the culture was first identified

Usage Note

Solutrense refers to the Solutrean culture, a Upper Palaeolithic industry (c. 22,000–17,000 BP) known for its finely pressure-flaked stone tools, especially laurel-leaf points. In Spanish it functions as both an adjective (la industria solutrense) and a noun (el Solutrense). It is highly specialised vocabulary found mainly in archaeology and prehistory texts.
