Usage Note

Socio covers several related meanings: a business partner (socio comercial), a member of a club or association (socio del club), and colloquially in some Latin American countries it is used as a friendly term of address similar to 'mate' or 'buddy'. The feminine form is socia. Do not confuse with asociado (associate, adj.).
