Simio is the general scientific-register term for any member of the primate suborder Simiiformes (apes and monkeys). In everyday speech mono is preferred for 'monkey' and gorila/chimpancé for specific apes, while simio sounds more formal or literary. The adjective simiesco/a means 'ape-like'.
