seguramente

surely

adverb seh-goo-rah-MEN-teh Less Common

Also means

probably

Usage Note

Seguramente is a false friend in degree: it does NOT mean 'certainly'. It typically expresses probability, closer to 'probably' or 'I would guess'. It frequently triggers the subjunctive when the speaker is speculating — Seguramente venga mañana — vs the indicative Seguramente vendrá mañana for higher confidence.

Examples

"Seguramente lloverá esta tarde."

Natural Translation

It will probably rain this afternoon.
