Rodeado is the past participle of rodear (to surround) used as an adjective, and it always takes de to introduce what surrounds the subject: rodeado de árboles (surrounded by trees). The feminine form is rodeada. It can describe physical surroundings or figurative ones, such as being surrounded by friends or problems.
