Usage Note

Referendo is the standard form preferred by the Real Academia Española and is common in Latin America. It coexists with referéndum (id 3576), which retains the Latin spelling and is more common in Spain. Both are fully accepted; stylistic preference varies by publication. The plural of referendo is regular: referendos.
