reducto
stronghold, redoubt
noun rreh-DOOK-toh Rare
Origin: From Latin reductus, 'withdrawn place'.
Also means
last bastion
Usage Note
Reducto is used both literally for a fortified military position and figuratively for any last remaining stronghold of an idea or group — el último reducto del conservadurismo ('the last bastion of conservatism'). The figurative sense is now far more common in modern Spanish prose and journalism. Do not confuse with reducto as a past participle of reductar, which is not a standard Spanish verb.
Examples
"Ese barrio es el último reducto bohemio."
Natural Translation
That neighbourhood is the last bohemian stronghold.
