recorrer

to travel through

verb rreh-koh-RREHR Less Common

Also means

to cover (a distance)

Usage Note

Recorrer implies movement through or across a space, often the whole of it (recorrió el país de norte a sur). It is the natural verb for distances and routes: el tren recorre 400 km. The noun recorrido means 'route', 'journey', or 'distance covered'. Do not use viajar as a substitute when the emphasis is on traversing a specific path, as viajar simply means 'to travel' without the sense of covering ground.

Examples

"Recorrimos toda la ciudad en un día."

Natural Translation

We travelled through the whole city in one day.
