Rabo is the common word for an animal's tail, and also a vulgar slang term; use it carefully in informal human contexts. It is masculine. In the kitchen, rabo de toro ('oxtail stew') is a classic Andalusian dish. For a dog's tail, both rabo and cola are used, but rabo is more colloquial.
