than (in comparisons)
Usage Note
Que is the workhorse relative pronoun and subordinating conjunction of Spanish, linking a main clause to nearly any dependent clause. As a conjunction it introduces indirect speech (dijo que vendría) and comparisons (más alto que yo); as a relative pronoun it refers to both people and things without change of form. The stressed interrogative/exclamative form qué (with accent) is a different word meaning 'what' or 'how'.
Examples
"El libro que leí es bueno."
Natural Translation
The book that I read is good.
