Usage Note

Procesión most often refers to a religious procession, especially the Holy Week (Semana Santa) processions that are a defining cultural event in Spain. There is a well-known Spanish proverb: la procesión va por dentro ('the procession goes on inside'), meaning a person hides their inner turmoil behind a calm exterior. The plural procesiones follows the regular -ión → -iones pattern.
