predecesor

noun preh-deh-seh-SOHR Rare
Origin: From Latin praedecessor 'one who goes before'.
Usage Note
Predecesor has a feminine form predecesora. It refers to the person who previously held a position (su predecesora en el cargo, his predecessor in the post) or to an earlier thing of the same type (el modelo es el predecesor del actual). Do not confuse with antecesor, which is nearly synonymous but slightly more formal in legal contexts.
Examples

Natural Translation
The minister followed her predecessor's policy.
