Usage Note
Poeta is one of the nouns ending in -a that is nevertheless masculine (el poeta). The feminine form is poetisa (traditional) or increasingly la poeta in modern usage. Poética means 'poetics' or a poet's personal style. Poema and poesía are the words for a poem and poetry respectively — poema refers to a single work, poesía to the art form or a poem in a more lyrical sense.
