Usage Note

Peregrino is strongly associated with the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage, where pilgrims (often non-religious) walk hundreds of kilometres to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. The feminine form is peregrina. As an adjective peregrino can also mean 'strange' or 'outlandish' (una idea peregrina — a far-fetched idea).
