to be pending
Usage Note
Pender is a literary or formal verb meaning to hang or dangle from something, and figuratively to be pending or looming: pende una amenaza sobre nosotros ('a threat hangs over us'). It is less colloquial than colgar for physical hanging. The related adjective pendiente ('pending, hanging, slope') is far more common in everyday speech.
