partidismo

partisanship

noun pahr-tee-DEES-moh Rare

Also means

factionalism

Usage Note

Partidismo refers to excessive loyalty to a political party or faction, with a negative connotation of bias; it is stronger and more pejorative than partido alone. Journalists use it to criticise decision-making driven by party interest rather than merit: el partidismo en los nombramientos ('party-based appointments'). Do not confuse with partidario ('supporter, partisan') which is neutral.

Examples

"El periodista criticó el partidismo del gobierno."

Natural Translation

The journalist criticised the government's partisanship.
