Usage Note
Oscuro describes both physical darkness (una habitación oscura = 'a dark room') and figurative obscurity (un pasado oscuro = 'a dark past'). The verb oscurecer means 'to darken' or, used impersonally, 'to get dark' (oscurece pronto en invierno). The noun oscuridad (darkness) is its abstract counterpart. Masculine oscuro, feminine oscura.
