Usage Note
Opuesto is used both as an adjective ('en el lado opuesto') and as a noun ('el opuesto'). As the past participle of oponer, it can also function in compound tenses: se han opuesto a la ley. When used after ser, it expresses a permanent contrary nature; note that opuesto a means 'opposed to' and takes a not de.
