obvio
obvious
adjective OHB-byoh Rare
Origin: from Latin obvius (in the way, accessible)
Usage Note
Obvio is a false friend for Spanish learners coming from English: while 'obvious' and obvio overlap strongly, the Spanish word is slightly more emphatic and can sound impatient or dismissive in context (¡es obvio! = obviously!). The adverb is obviamente and the abstract noun is obviedad.
Examples
"La solución era obvia desde el principio."
Natural Translation
The solution was obvious from the start.
