Usage Note
Normativo describes something that establishes rules or standards — un marco normativo (a regulatory framework). In linguistics, gramática normativa is prescriptive grammar (how language should be used), as opposed to gramática descriptiva. The noun normativa (f) means 'regulations' or 'rules' and is extremely common in legal and bureaucratic Spanish. Note the v is pronounced like b: 'nohr-mah-TEE-boh'.
