neutral
neutral
adjective neh-oo-TRAHL Rare
Origin: From Latin 'neutralis', from 'neuter' (neither of two).
Usage Note
Neutral is invariable in gender in Spanish — un país neutral, una postura neutral — unlike adjectives ending in -o/-a. It is used in politics (a neutral country), chemistry (a neutral pH), and grammar (género neutro). In electrical contexts, el neutro is the noun for the neutral wire. Note that in Spanish grammar, the neuter gender (lo neutro) exists for pronouns and articles but not for nouns.

The referee tried to remain neutral.
