mustio

wilted

adjective MOOS-tyoh Rare

Also means

gloomy

Usage Note

Mustio has two distinct registers: in botany it describes a plant that is withered or drooping, while colloquially (especially in Spain) it describes a person who is sad, dejected, or dull. The feminine form is mustia. It is more literary than marchito for plants and more colourful than triste for people.

Examples

"Las flores estaban mustias sin agua."

Natural Translation

The flowers were wilted without water.
