Usage Note
Minas is the plural of mina, which has two main meanings: an underground mine (for coal, gold, etc.) and a pencil lead or refill. Both senses are feminine: las minas de carbón (coal mines), las minas del lápiz (pencil leads). In informal speech, mina can also mean 'woman' in Río de la Plata Spanish.
