Usage Note
Melaza is the thick, dark syrup left after refining sugar — what English calls molasses or treacle. It is used in baking, animal feed, and the production of rum. Don't confuse with miel (honey) or miel de caña (cane syrup), which are distinct products though all derive from sweeteners.
