maduro

mature

adjective mah-DOO-roh Rare

Also means

ripe

Usage Note

Maduro describes both the ripeness of fruit (un plátano maduro) and the maturity of a person in age or judgment. The noun madurez (f) means 'maturity' or 'ripeness'. In political Spanish un político maduro implies experience and measured judgment. Do not confuse with mayor ('older/elder'), which signals relative age rather than the quality of maturity.

Examples

"El queso curado tiene un sabor más maduro."

Natural Translation

Cured cheese has a more mature flavour.
