más

more

adverb MAHS Common

Origin: From Latin magis.

Also means

most

Usage Note

Más carries a written accent to distinguish it from mas (literary 'but'). It forms comparatives (más alto que) and superlatives (el más alto), and the fixed phrase más o menos ('more or less') is ubiquitous in everyday speech. As an adverb of degree it also intensifies adjectives and other adverbs.

Examples

"Habla más despacio, por favor."

Natural Translation

Please speak more slowly.

Literal Translation

Speak more slowly, please
