limítrofe
bordering; adjacent
adjective lee-MEE-troh-feh Rare
Origin: From Latin limes (boundary) + Greek trophe (nourishment/care) — though the modern sense is purely geographical.
Usage Note
Limítrofe is used almost exclusively to describe countries, regions, or zones that share a border — países limítrofes (neighbouring countries). It does not change for gender (el municipio limítrofe, la zona limítrofe) but agrees in number (zonas limítrofes). A more everyday synonym is fronterizo/a.
Examples
"Los países limítrofes firmaron un acuerdo."
Natural Translation
The bordering countries signed an agreement.
