jurásico

Jurassic

adjective hoo-RAH-see-koh Rare

Origin: Named after the Jura mountains on the French-Swiss border

Usage Note

Jurásico is both a geological adjective (período jurásico) and a noun (el Jurásico = the Jurassic period). It spans roughly 201–145 million years ago. In colloquial Spanish it is sometimes used humorously for something extremely old-fashioned, mirroring the English use of 'Jurassic' (eso es del Jurásico = that's from the Stone Age).

"Los dinosaurios dominaban la Tierra en el período jurásico."
