jesuita

Jesuit

noun heh-SWEE-tah Rare

Origin: From New Latin Jesuita, from Iesus (Jesus).

Usage Note

Jesuita is both noun and adjective and is grammatically common gender — el jesuita, la jesuita — so the same form serves masculine and feminine. It refers to a member of the Society of Jesus, the Catholic religious order founded by Ignatius of Loyola. Colloquially it can be used pejoratively to mean a sly or hypocritical person.

Examples

Natural Translation
