Usage Note
Infectado functions as a past-participle adjective and takes estar: la herida está infectada (the wound is infected). The medical verb is infectar(se); the causative is infectar (to infect something), the reflexive infectarse (to become infected). Don't confuse with infestado (infested with pests).
