Usage Note

Hincapié is masculine (el hincapié), despite its -ie ending. It almost always appears in the fixed phrase hacer hincapié en ('to stress, to emphasize'): hizo hincapié en la seguridad ('he stressed safety'). It is rarely used outside this collocation.
